Description of the area

The booking Naturetrek Vizcaya is located on the north side of the Pastaza river, and extending from the Llanganates National Park towards the lower areas in its western margin, and is fully covered by montane forests.

Flora and fauna

In this booking have been found several species of amphibians, including the recently described Cutín of Maryanne (Pristimantis maryanneae), the Cutín de Marco Reyes (P. marcoreyesi, IN), Cutín de Urbina (P. modipeplus, IN), Cutín de Pastaza (P. pastazensis, IN), Cutín de Tungurahua (P. tungurahua, IN), P. marcoreyesi (IN), P. kayi, and the reptile Riama meleagris (NT), there are additionally some new species of frogs in order to describe the genera Pristimantis and Nymphargus.

Other outstanding species include the Andean Eagle (Spizaetus isidori, IN) and the Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus, VU), Puma (americanPuma concolor), Corzuelo Small Red (Mazama rufina, VU), along with some orchids of the genera Lepanthes and Taegueia.
